Proof that Game Maker isn't a waste of time!
(Thursday, 24 December 2009) Written by Slammin Sam
Hello GMA  As some of you will know, I haven't completed or uploaded any games or software for ages now, I have kind of lost my likeness for Game Maker. But, just as I thought that it was a waste of time, just as I was going to completely give up on it, I won a local Technology competition.   I entered my program, Spritem and won 3 of the competition catagories, including best overall entry, which I was surprised at because this competition is also for people in year 11 and 12, and I just finished year 10. I won a total of $1300 dollars!   So, if you're thinking of it giving up Game Maker, don't! It is worth it in the end. I would concentrate on selling your games locally, not just uploading them to YYG or selling them over the net. Make a CD and ask some small shops around you if they wouldn't mind putting them on the front counter. Who knows, maybe a professional Game Designer will find one one day, and think you have some talent. Where you go from there is up to you. Me? I don't think I'll be using Game Maker much anymore, I'm going to buy a Mac Book Pro and make iPhone games using the Apple SDK.  ~Slammer   Also finished another song, 'The Clouds'. Check out my music myspace!

Dark Matter Online Sprite Competition
(Saturday, 30 May 2009) Written by Slammin Sam
Hey guys I have been working on a program for my game Dark Matter Online that can build ship sprites easily and it's almost done. The graphix look amazing and the interface is nice and smooth, but I just need one thing. In order for this program to be easy to pick up and use for the first time, I'll need a pack of ship parts to go with the program. These can be anything, chasis', guns, rocket boosters, wings, patterns and windscreens (the part you look out of).  Entering this competition will make Dark Matter Online an even better game with future updates nearing. I am holding a competition for all GMArcade members. THE TASK: To create sprites that when put together with other sprites, can be made into a spaceship. These have to be TOP DOWN SPACE SHIP PARTS. PRIZES: Anyone who hands in (decent) sprites that they MADE THEMSELVES will recieve coins, depending on the quality and quantity of the sprites. The person who creates the best sprite pack will win 150 coins on top of what they already got for their sprites! They will also win a cool competition banner for their sig. AND they will get the full-version of the finished program for free. Your sprites may end up being in the pack that come with the program, with credit to you as well. HOW TO ENTER: Email me your sprite pack (.zip) or attach it in a post on this blog. You also must post here to tell me you have entered. I hope you all enter in this competition. If you think you can't make sprites, just have a go anyway. Chances are you will get some coins anyway. Practice makes perfect! The competition will close when I have a good enough sprite pack to go with my program. ~Slammer P.S: A screenshot of the program so far.

What have I been up to? !!!!!UPDATE!!!!!
(Monday, 11 May 2009) Written by Slammin Sam
Hey guys  Just a notice to tell everyone what I've been up to.  I've had a ton of (pointless) homework at school, as that is the only kind of homework there is. Stupid things like Gold mining assignments, Childrens picture story books and other terribly boring stuff that I am NEVER going to need in my life and that takes AGES to do......so I haven't been working on games or been active on the site. I still check it everyday, but I don't have enough time to do anything.  Last saturday me and 4 other people went to a one-street town called Dingee, we made jokes about the town the whole way there, quite funny. :P Anyway, they were holding a talent competition and our school decided to make a 4-piece brass quartet to enter in the band section. We played 3 pieces, and honestly we all thought we did I really bad job. Our school was thinking of doing a stage band tour and the teacher said that if we win, we can go on tour. Since none of us thought we were going to win, I got the crazy idea of signing up in the solo competition on the day that the cmop was held. They all had a big talk and decided I could because someone didn't turn up. So, I was the last one playing. The time came for me to get on the stage....I set up the electric piano (they didn't have any other) and the curtains opened. The electric piano was sitting on two clarinet cases to make the keys on a flat angle. I started to play a Beethoven song (a really serious, technical, truly amazing peice) from memory and half way through the performance the clarinet cases fell out and the keyboard  was on a 45% angle, I lost my spot at about the same time, so I started again. This time the clarinet cases fell out again, but I continued playing. I finished this 5 minute long peice and when I immediatly finished I started playing the mario brothers theme. It's called tension release. The audience though it was hilarious.  I thought the band and I did a terrible job, yet the audience loved it. We came first on both sections and won $600 in total. So the stage band is going on tour. That was one of the best weekends I have ever had.  GAMEMAKER: I've been making some examples (about 5) that are pretty cool. My assignments are due in this week so after that I'll have a bit of time to work on these.  I haven't done much on Dark Matter Online lately, which is a shame.  Well, that's about it. I hope you took the time to read all this. :P ~Slammer UPDATE!!! All homework finished for a while. Saturday I'm going to the Groovin the Moo concert in Victoria and I get to go back stage and I will probably get to meet bands like THE LIVING END!!! That will be awesome. Hope fully this experience will give me inspiration to write some songs of my own. I've also been working an some GMK examples and stuff.
